New banner! So if you’re reading this via feed reader of some variety, you should click on over and go “ooo” or possibly “ew” depending on whether you and I mesh, graphics-wise. Those are sassafras leaves (all three shapes they come in!) that I drew myself, dammit. The fonts are Antique Shop by Chuck Davis of Letterhead Fonts and Tom’s New Roman by Divide By Zero. I had a ridiculous amount of fun playing with the kerning (that’s the spacing between the letters) and all, but still need to tweak the tagline I think.
In other news, I never did write up last weekend’s jaunt to the commemoration of the 146th anniversary of the Battle of the Wilderness. I took Zille over in the afternoon to hear muskets and artillery fire. She felt the whole affair was entirely boring EXCEPT! there was a pair of Jack Russell Terriers there. Zillekins grew up with a pair of JRTs, so she was beside herself with submissive joy, all wiggly and “OMG I LOVE YOU LET’S BE BEST FRIENDS PLEASE LOVE ME PLEEEAAAASSSEEEEEEE”, especially with the female. The JRTs’ owners were amazed, because the female apparently doesn’t like big dogs, but she is happy to meet big dogs who are busy trying to get lower than a JRT while submissively licking the terrier’s muzzle. Watching a 70lb German Shedder try to get lower than a Jack Russell, by the way, is one of the more hilarious things ever.
My Mom is here this weekend to help celebrate my birthday, to the rampaging delight of the Usual Suspects. We’re building me a big work top where the letterpress, embossing, paper-making, and card-making equipment can all go live, which will free up the flat space on top of the dog crates as well as the kitchen/dining table and the living room table. I will have available horizontal surface area again! This is very exciting.
And finally, I am on summer break from school which means I finally have time in which to spin, knit, letterpress, emboss, make paper, make cards, and design a new logo for the blog, which is a great relief. Trying to go to school full-time, even online, while holding down a full-time job, commuting 2 hours a day, and spending time with the Usual Suspects and online time with my fiance[1] was all getting to be a bit much, so I’m glad to have the down time, even if I don’t get a summer break from having a day job.
[1] HE LIVES IN ENGLAND AT THE MOMENT, SO WE’RE RESTRICTED TO THE INTERNET PRETTY MUCH. USCIS CASHED THE CHECK FOR OUR PETITION FOR A K-1 FIANCE VISA A LITTLE OVER 2 MONTHS AGO AND THEN APPARENTLY STUCK IT AT THE BOTTOM OF A PILE OR POSSIBLY IS USING IT TO LINE LITTER BOXEN AND BIRD CAGES. SIGH. YAY BUREAUCRACY.
