I have to admit that doing the critter rescue thing is expensive and time-consuming and difficult. I’m starting this page to say a huge and public thank you to those who have given me a hand on my mission to save the world, one quadruped at a time.
So here are my thank yous:
Selma Kessler, friend and confidante, who financed my Havahart trap and then some! Also a fabulous source of moral support and tales of her own kitty crew.
Cherie Priest, noted author and friend, who is helping me publicize the kittens and also waving virtual pompoms for me. If you like creepy exciting books that often involve zombies, show her some love and buy a couple.
Kate at Om Shanti Handcrafts, also using her powers for good and publicizing kittens, plus listening to me whine about WHY ARE THE KITTENS CRYING? Kate makes the world’s ONLY Tink-branded beauty product, so if you need a good treatment for minor cuts and dings, check out the Tink’s Lavender and Tea Tree Salve.
And finally, my wonderful fiance, Daniel, who when I said “Um, you don’t mind about cats in the bathroom, right?” answered right up with “Why would I?”
And a thank you to all of you quietly cheering me on and passing around links to kittens and cats and things. I’d never be able to keep it up without my cheering squad!
I think you are awesome….and I love you for what you do!!!! I have rescue babies of my own (up to 9 now) and one ferel who has come to trust me lets me pick him up and everything…..anyway….i want to open a rescue somehow someway i will do it….any pointers would be appreciated !!!! Keep up the good things you do for the babies !!!!! Marlene
Marlene,
My first tip is, be able to let go! No matter how hard it is, no matter how much you love them. A person only has so much time and so much money, and every cat you keep is one more you can’t help. So know exactly how many you can support, and what you can pay in vet bills, and then knock that number down by one or two so you have room for the foster kitties.
It’s incredibly difficult to run an actual rescue registered as an actual charity. Money is really short and there’s ALWAYS a cat that needs a place to go. You have to be kind of brutally realistic about which cats you can help and how.
Hey, you know, you are funny and clever (or clever and funny) and you made me think of Rachel Maddow…do you watch her?
Just curious…you needn’t reply, just take it as a compliment!
